Use of Lentinan and Fluopimomide to Control Cotton Seedling Damping-Off Disease Caused by Rhizoctonia solani

Abstract: Lentinan (LNT) is a natural and functional polysaccharide isolated from Lentinus edodes fruiting bodies, which functions in stimulating the plant immune response, improving plant disease resistance and regulating plant growth. This study explores the use of LNT as a plant growth regulator and attractant in cotton production. After treatment with LNT, the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in cotton seeds decreased, whereas the activities of polyphenol oxidase (PPO), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD… Show more

“…Polysaccharide immunity inducers, such as amino oligosaccharides, CTS, chitin and LNT, have been widely used in controlling plant virus diseases (Zhao et al, 2007). LNT, as a biological polysaccharide, has multiple functions that confer disease resistance, such as closing plant stomata, inducing the expression of plant resistance genes and improving plant defence‐related enzyme activity, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) (Sun et al, 2022; Yin et al, 2010; Zhao et al, 2007). However, previously generated hydrogels loaded with LNT are confined in field application due to the limited release time of LNT and its instability in the complex field environment (Xiang et al, 2019).…”

“…During the period of March–May 2019, 226 samples of naturally infected lucky bamboo showing characteristic symptoms of severe root rot, basal stem rot, and wilt disease complex were randomly collected from 630 lucky bamboo plants surveyed at various locations at retail stores, shops, and nurseries in Alexandria, El-Behera, and Giza governorates, Egypt. In all the mentioned sites, the percentages of disease infection were recorded and calculated 30 , 31 using the ratings shown in Table 1 .…”

“…Although LNT does not possess direct bactericidal activity, it stimulates secondary metabolism and the antioxidant system of crops to increase their disease resistance. 16 Additionally, it acts as a foliar fertilizer and has been used in tobacco, [17][18][19] cotton, 20 and wheat 21 as an eco-friendly biological agent to control plant diseases. Few studies, nevertheless, have investigated how LNT as a foliar fertilizer affects crop quality.…”
