Use of hydroxypropyl β‐cyclodextrin hybrid monolithic material as adsorbent for dispersive solid‐phase extraction of fluoroquinolones from environmental water samples

Abstract: In this study, the hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin hybrid monolithic material was fabricated and firstly applied as an adsorbent for dispersive solidphase extraction coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography to detect trace-level seven fluoroquinolones in water samples. The prepared hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin hybrid monolithic material was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and adsorption experiments, which showed excellent specific adsorption to th… Show more

“…Several SPE-based methods include traditional SPE, bar adsorptive microextraction, SP-microextraction, in-disk SPE, and dispersive SPE (DSPE) [21]. DSPE methods offer benefits of SPE such as flexibility of adsorbent selection and their tunability by chemical substitution/modification to improve extraction performance plus the advantages of LLE methods (cloud point extraction in particular) such as good dispersibility of sorbent that can effectively avail its active sites to the targeted analytes to enhance its interactions with them in a shorter time [22,23]. DSPE presents several other advantages, including high enrichment factor, ease of use, and reduced consumption of sorbents compared to conventional SPE [24,25].…”

“…Cyclodextrins (CD), which have a hydrophilic outer cavity and hydrophobic inner cavity, are ideal host molecules, similar to enzymes, and have been widely applied in the fields of catalysis, separation, food, and medicine. [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29] For example, Liu et al constructed hyaluronidase-responsive polysaccharide supramolecular assemblies using chlorambucil, β-CD with hexylimidazolium units, and adamantyl-grafted hyaluronic acid. These aggregates can specifically target cancer cells and respond to hyaluronidase to induce the release of anticancer drugs.…”
