Use of HPLC in the Determination of the Molar Absorptivity of 4′-Geranyloxyferulic Acid and Boropinic Acid

Abstract: Natural prenyloxycinnamic acids were shown to exert in vitro and in vivo remarkable and valuable anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects. Among these, 4 0 -geranyloxyferulic acid [3-(4 0 -geranyloxy-3 0 -methoxyphenyl)-2-trans-propenoic acid] was discovered as an efficient orally active chemopreventive agent of several types of cancer, and its structural analogue boropinic acid was shown to exert a valuable inhibitory effect both in vitro and in vivo against the growth of Helicobacter pylori. As a continuati… Show more

“…Lambert-Beer's law is valid for a DAD detector, which is a spectrophotometer submitted to a dynamic and continuous HPLC flow, operating on chromatographically separated molecules. As proposed by Locatelli et al [35], (3) can be used when is calculated as the slope of a straight-line regression built using the injected mass and the corresponding areas recorded by the DAD detector as follows:…”

“…The concentrations of vitamins A and E in the stock solutions were determined by two methods. In the first method we used dynamic flow HPLC coupled with diode array detector [ 18 20 ]. The second method is the static UV/VIS spectrophotometer using Beer’s Law [ 21 – 27 ] with purity corrections for impurity absorbed at the same wavelength by liquid chromatography.…”

“…Within each HPLC trace, the area under the curve for the product peptide was extracted and calculated using a custom R-script. To calculate the amount of converted product as a result of the enzymatic reaction, we employed a modified version of Lambert-Beer's law, [114] with…”
