Use of Herbal indicator from Bixa orellana seed in Volumetric Analysis

Abstract

Bixa orellana is a neotropical fast growing perennial tree of great agro industrial value because its seeds have a high carotenoid content, mainly bixin. It is currently used as a natural pigment in the food, in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and it is commercially known as annatto. Its famous name is “Urucum”, used by indigenous communities in Brazil and other tropical countries for several biological applications, which indicate its potential use as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical products. Annatto has traditionally been used for diabetes and snakebites. Annatto has recently been used as an ingredient in weight-loss products. It is used as folk medicine in the form of decoctions, tea and juices for the treatment of common infections. This species is used in production of phytochemicals like flavonoid, sterols, tannins, bisulphate and essential oil.
