USE OF FIVE Eucalyptus species FOR PARTICLEBOARDS MANUFACTURE1

Abstract: -The objective of this study was to evaluate the technical feasibility of the use of five Eucalyptus species, originating from plantations with short rotation cycle, for particleboards manufacture. The following species have been studied: Eucalyptus benthamii, Eucalyptus dunni, Eucalyptus grandis, Eucalyptus saligna, Eucalyptus urograndis, their mixture and Pinus taeda as a control. 21 wood particleboard have been produced, with nominal density of 0.65 g/cm³, totaling 7 treatments. For the bonding, urea-formal… Show more

“…The results of perpendicular traction are in accordance with the results presented by Rosa et al (2017) or particleboards produced with five species of Eucalyptus (E. benthamii, E. dunnii, E. grandis, E. saligna, E. urograndis), ranging from 0.64 MPa 0.91 MPa. Trianoski et al (2013) and Iwakiri et al (2014), found for panels of Cryptomeria japonica and Sequoia sempervirens, perpendicular tensile values of 0.99 MPa and 0.70, respectively.…”

“…Regarding the 24-hour thick swelling, the results are compatible with some values presented in the literature. Rosa et al (2017) found for particleboards produced with five species of Eucalyptus (E. benthamii, E. dunnii, E. grandis, E. saligna, E. urograndis) 24-hour thick swelling values in the range of 10.74% to 11.76%. Trianoski et al (2011) found for Acrocarpus fraxinifolius, Melia azedarach, Grevillea robusta, Schizolobium parahyba and Toona ciliata, values in the range of 16.78% to 29.76%.…”

“…Several studies have demonstrated the practicality of using Eucalyptus species in particleboard manufacture. Da Rosa et al [35] made particleboards from five eucalyptus species, i.e., Eucalyptus benthamii, E. dunni, E. grandis, E. saligna, and E. urograndis. As a control, particleboard produced from Pinus taeda was used.…”
