Use of an Internet-Based Telemedicine System to Manage Underserved Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract: The benefit of monitoring blood glucose in indigent women with GDM via the Internet was limited by their infrequent use of the telemedicine system. Computers were provided to the participants; however, compliance in the 2007 study (18) was limited by modem Internet service, and women transmitted only one-third of the data expected. Compared to review of handwritten log books at weekly prenatal visits, patient and provider satisfaction were higher with the Internet method, but glycemic control was equivalent.…”
