Use of a Rich Internet Application Solution to Present Medical Images

Abstract: Browser with Rich Internet Application (RIA) Web pages could be a powerful user interface for handling sophisticated data and applications. Then the RIA solutions would be a potential method for viewing and manipulating the most data generated in clinical processes, which can accomplish the main functionalities as general picture archiving and communication system (PACS) viewing systems. The aim of this study is to apply the RIA technology to present medical images. Both Digital Imaging and Communications in M… Show more

“…The growth of integrated PACS with RIA architecture such as, Microsoft Silverlight ,for presenting the medical data from different departments is expected to increase and provides an innovative PACS web solution. [7] Images can be shared on multiple levels and across institutional borders. Digital images allow distribution and manipulation of medical images and data between diverse users and supports collaborative working.…”

“…Unfortunately, these requirements are incompatible and difficult to be fulfilled in archipelagic or remote areas. Encountering these challenges and limitations, innovation and creativity are needed in designing and making an ideal and compatible telemedicine model in the archipelagic area [4,14,15].…”

“…Electrocardiography examination requires an electronic medical device called an "electrocardiogram" [5]. There are various types of tools based on the development of the system: some have DICOM-based-high-technology which is easily integrated with the current developed modern application systems, and some others are less modern and still based on non-DICOM and difficult to be integrated directly with tele-applications [4,[16][17][18].…”

“…Most of the DR system receives X-ray signals that have passed through a part of the patient and have been measured by an X-ray detector and directly converts these signals to digital signals, which are then directly sent to the image processing and PACS computer systems [9][10][11][12][13][14]. However, in the case of portable DR, all components cannot be split.…”
