“…In 11 of the 13 studies evaluating clinical pathways (85%) a statistically significant decrease in length of stay was observed [19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29]. With regard to complication rates, re-admission rates and mortality, in most studies no significant differences [21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29, 31] and sometimes positive effects [19, 20, 30] are observed between the conventional care and pathway groups. It can therefore be argued that patients can be safely treated according to the clinical pathway as the reported decrease in length of stay does not seem to have any adverse effects on the other three outcome measures.…”
