Use of a Commercially Available Microarray to Characterize Antibiotic-Resistant Clinical Isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae

Abstract: A commercially available microarray (IDENTIBAC AMR-ve) for the detection of antibiotic resistance determinants was investigated for its potential to genotype 30 clinical isolates and two control strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae. Resistance profiles and the production of extended-spectrum β-lactamases were determined by disc diffusion and the results were compared with the microarray profiles in order to assess its scope and limitations. Genes associated with resistance to a wide range of antibiotics, including… Show more

“…In another study, an effort has been successfully undertaken to reduce antibiotic susceptibility testing assay time, as well as for rapid determination of minimum inhibitory concentrations of different antibiotics using a nanoliter-sized microchamber/microarray-based microfluidic (N-3 M) platform [95]. More recently, a commercially available microarray (IDENTIBAC AMR-ve) has been developed for determination of antibiotic-resistant clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae, and to identify genes associated with resistance to a wide range of antibiotics [96].…”

“…Interestingly, lncRNA-TTN-AS1, a novel vital regulator of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, has been identified using microarray analysis, and found to correlate with overall survival [96]. This biomarker promotes SNAIL1 and FSCN1 expression binding to miR-133b, as well as interaction with mRNA, thereby leading to activation of a metastasis cascade [112].…”

“…A large variety of surfaces have been used as supports for DNA microarrays, including silicon [11], polymeric substrates such as poly(methylmethacrylate), polycarbonate, polystyrene, and porous membranes (nylon and nitrocellulose) [12,13], but the most popular is glass slides [14]. So far, several DNA microarray platforms have been developed for antibiotic resistance gene identification [15][16][17]. Various designs of microarrays have been proposed for the identification of β-lactamase genes [18,19].…”
