This study aimed to identify sociodemographic and disease-related factors associated with good SMB in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods:We used data from 405 people with T2D aged 65 or older from the population-based KORA (Cooperative Health Research in the Area of Augsburg) Health Survey 2016 in Southern Germany.We estimated Poisson and logistic regression models testing the cross-sectional relationship between individual or disease-related characteristics and an established SMB sum index comprising six SMB dimensions stratified for people with and without insulin treatment. Results:Mean age in the sample was 75 and diabetes duration 13 years. The overall level of SMB was low.Higher SMB index scores were associated with higher age, treatment with insulin, participation in a diabetes education program, and, for people with insulin treatment, with a BMI<30kg/m 2 . Single item analyses generally supported these findings. Conclusions:SMB in people with T2D needs to be improved with efficient interventions. Targeting obese individuals and those at an early stage of the disease with low-barrier, regular education or selfmanagement programs may be a preferred strategy.

According to the traditional economics approach, an individual's decisions reflect that individual's best interests and are made rationally. Behavioral economics, a field of economics that integrates economics and psychology in analyzing human behavior, is important for explaining why individuals' decisions and behaviors may not reflect their best interests. A review of the literature has found that behavioral economics has significance for its power to explain individual psychological aspects of the economic decision-making process, both among individuals and institutions. The key methodological approaches deployed to write this article are desktop and library research. On the basis of the literature being reviewed, this article aims to investigate the factors that have increased interest in behavioral economics, and define the key elements of behavioral economics, its application in the public and private sectors, and criticism of behavioral economics. The discussion in this article claims that behavioral economics benefits economics by incorporating other social sciences and approaches in individual behavior and decision making. Contribution/Originality: This study contributes in the existing literature on the behavioral economics to its application in in the public and private sector. This study uses a survey of literature relating to the behavioral economics emphasizing the importance of the behavioral economics to understand consumers' behavior.

It is widely acknowledged that in order to promote public health and prevent diseases, a wide range of scientific disciplines and sectors beyond the health sector need to be involved. Evidence-based interventions, beyond preventive health interventions targeting disease risk factors and interventions from other sectors, should be developed and implemented. Investing in these preventive health policies is challenging as budgets have to compete with other governmental expenditures. The current study aimed to identify, compare and rank cost-effective preventive interventions targeting metabolic, environmental, occupational and behavioral risk factors. To identify these interventions, a literature search was performed including original full economic evaluations of Western country interventions that had not yet been implemented in the Netherlands. Several workshops were held with experts from different disciplines. In total, 51 different interventions (including 13 cost saving interventions) were identified and ranked based on their incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) and potential averted disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), resulting in two rankings of the most cost-effective interventions and one ranking of the 13 cost saving interventions. This approach, resulting in an intersectoral ranking, can assist policy makers in implementing cost-effective preventive action that considers not only the health sector, but also other sectors.
