Using a mobile application that is featured with local public transit information can greatly improve user action, as well as assisting travelers to have a better experience while taking public transit services. Crowd environment inside a public transit is one of the most frequent causes that lead difficulties to passengers when they engaging their mobile devices to access their apps or in some conditions. Finding crucial information such as stops points and remaining time to interchanges point when switching to another line becomes more difficult in those conditions especially for foreigners who new in a particular region. This study presents the combination of a mental model and a usability approach to construct a user journey map that led to new insights on user's experiences and challenges when utilizing their mobile local transit application. This valuable information is a part of the elicitation process to propose an alternative interaction method to enhance the usability and travel experience of the public transit app. The experimental results indicate that in contrast to the existing mobile transit app, the proposed interface with the utilization of a wearable device could considerably enhance user action when trying to reach the desired location in terms of total time and performance. It implies that the proposed solution, which works through the mental model and user journey is able to intuitively enhance the public transit app usability.

Among software quality attributes "software usability" is considered as one of the vital factors in software engineering literature. Software usability is the ability for users to generally understand, use, and learn a software with ease. Due to the importance of usability in software quality, a considerable amount of literature is published in the past decade. Few review and survey studies are also published to critically review the existing literature in the domain. However, there is limited research covering systematic mapping study of software usability. Mapping studies help in analyzing the general trends and research productivity in a research area. To fill this gap, this work critically examines the overall research productivity, demographics, trends, and challenges of software usability. The objective is to classify the current contributions and trends in the area of software usability. We retrieved 9,874 research articles from six research databases and 62 works are selected as primary studies using an evidence-based approach. The result of this mapping study shows that software usability is an active research area, with a promising number of works published in the last decade (2011 -2020). We identified that the current literature spans over multiple article classes of which investigative papers, model proposals and evaluation papers are the most frequently published article types. We found experiments and theoretical validations to be the most common validation techniques. In terms of application domains; web, software development and mobile applications are the most frequent domains where usability studies are conducted. We identified that future usability studies should focus more on field studies as well as on the usability testing of scientific software packages. It will be of importance to consider ethical issues in usability testing as well.

Software development is not an easy process. Proof of this is the existence of numerous methodological proposals that have proven to be practical and efficient in a large number of projects. However, these methodologies have also presented problems in aspects of their application. To such an extent that they often need to be adapted to the realities of each project or company in order to improve the results obtained in their application. The aim of this article is to tell a real experience in a small development company in which several methodologies have been applied over the years, highlighting Scrum as the one that has brought better results. However, by applying it specifically to small projects, with few resources, limited times and changing requirements, the need to also adapt to this methodology for this type of project was born. We have called this adaptation MEAC, acronym that refers to an Empirical Method of Continuous Support whose purpose is to avoid time cuts in the generation and development of the software product, as well as to maintain the active production line of the software team active. Resumen: El desarrollo de software no es un proceso fácil. Prueba de ello, es la existencia de numerosas propuestas metodológicas que han demostrado ser prácticas y eficientes en un gran número de proyectos. No obstante, estas metodologías también han presentado problemas en aspectos de su aplicación. A tal punto que, muchas de las veces se necesitan adaptarlas a realidades propias de cada proyecto o empresa con el fin de mejorar los procesos de desarrollo de software y obtener un producto de calidad. El objetivo de este artículo es contar una experiencia real en una empresa pequeña de desarrollo en la cual se ha aplicado varias metodologías al largo de los años, destacándose Scrum como la que mejores resultados ha traído. Sin embargo, al aplicarla específicamente en proyectos pequeños, con pocos recursos, tiempos limitados y requisitos cambiantes, ha nacido la necesidad de también adaptar a esta metodología para este tipo de proyectos. A esta adaptación la hemos llamado MEAC, siglas que se refieren a un Método Empírico de Apoyo Continuo cuya finalidad es evitar cortes de tiempo en la generación y desarrollo del producto software, así como mantener activa la línea de producción activa del equipo de software.
