Urodynamical findings on women with voiding problems and earlier vesico‐ureteral reflux

Abstract: Despite of high frequency of symptoms in female patients with earlier VUR, detrusor overactivity was a rarity, but decreased sensitivity and large capacity of the bladder were found frequently. The patients with weak or fractionated urine flow seemed to suffer from an overactive urethral sphincter.

“…Urodynamic studies have been utilised, in particular to assess bladder capacity with most values being < 150 ml and very few being > 300 ml (2,8). It has been postulated that in established KIV cases, vesico‐ureteric reflux (VUR) occurs as a result of a small bladder capacity combined with high bladder pressures (detrusor overactivity) (2), whereas early VUR cases in general commonly exhibit large bladder capacity with detrusor overactivity being rare (15).…”

“…Therefore, a defined laboratory method may be needed to estimate the serum or urine level of ketamine and its metabolites to define objective parameters. Third, the large capacity of the bladder was noted in the presence of earlier vesico‐ureteric reflux theoretically . But the association between vesico‐ureteric reflux and the severity of ketamine‐associated cystitis is unclear.…”

Therefore, the simultaneous evaluation of the upper urinary tract is necessary for establishing the association with disease progression in KC.…”

“…In a small study of 17 female VUR patients with abnormal flowmetry, Lahdes‐Vasama et al . [49] reported urodynamic findings. A third of the patients had a large (>800 mL) cystometric bladder capacity.…”
