URLLC Mode Optimal Resource Allocation to Support HARQ in 5G Wireless Networks

Abstract: Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC) mode is a promising 5G technology for various real-time applications, such as, autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, and factory automation. Several papers on URLLC exist, however, most papers only focus on ways to achieve high reliability, and lack mathematical analysis of delay related to packet errors, retransmissions, and bandwidth. In this paper, a M/G/1 queuing model is applied to analyze the erroneous transmission recovery delay of URLLC multiuser servi… Show more

“…The queuing model assumed is M/GI/∞ with no queuing delay. In [228], a similar optimization model is considered, however, an M/G/1 queuing model with queuing delay is assumed. A truncated HARQ-CC is also proposed in [229] for URLLC where a new approach is proposed to tune the maximum number of retransmissions to minimize energy consumption in HARQ-CC under latency, reliability, and transmit power constraints.…”

“…In [ 153 ], the M/G/1 queuing model was deployed to investigate the inaccurate transmission retrieval interruption of URLLC multiuser amenities, and in applying this model, the lowest essential data rate was designed and implemented on an adaptive control scheme. The presented Pollaczek–Khinchine (P-K) formula-based quadratic optimization (PFQO) method for controlling the maximum retransmission parameter of the hybrid automatic repeated request (HARQ) technique in URLLC enhanced the bandwidth requirement.…”

“…Thus, it is necessary to properly utilize/combine such approaches based on various parameters such as load, channel state, and queue size. References [6], [10] propose a joint resource allocation and HARQ optimization framework to minimize the required bandwidth subject to packet error ratio in single-cell scenarios. These works make strict assumptions on queue models (e.g., M/GI/∞ with zero queuing delay in [6] and M/G/1 in [10]), which often are not realistic in cyber-physical production systems.…”
