“…Urine sampling may present an even less invasive and equally effective strategy for primary HPV testing [ [23] , [24] , [25] , [26] , [27] , [28] ], but has not yet been validated with the Xpert HPV assay. Beyond DNA testing, methylation changes in human genes and the HPV virus are strongly correlated with the development of CIN and invasive cervical cancer [ [29] , [30] , [31] ].…”

“…HPV detection in urine samples may be due to the contamination of HPV-infected cells from the external urethral orifice or distal urethra, T A B L E 2 HPV prevalence and type distribution in urine and bladder washing samples (n = 201) which are the most common anatomic sites of HPV infection among the urinary tract in females and males. 1,6,8,9 Therefore, urine samples were unlikely to be suitable for HPV infection detection in the urinary bladder.…”

“…Urine is a most convenient and simple tool for screening HPV infection in the urinary tract; however, identifying the anatomic sites of HPV infection in the urinary tract in cases with HPV‐deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) detection in spontaneously voided urine is difficult. Indeed, epithelial cells exfoliated from the external genitalia, external orifice, and distal urethra are often contaminated in urine samples in females 8,9 . Contrastingly, HPV detection is the lowest in samples of the urogenital in males, such as the urethra, urine, and semen, and especially urine sample is reported to be inadequate for HPV detection 1,6 …”

“…20 In the study by Maged et al, to assess the sensitivity of urine test for detection of hrHPV on 1375 women referred to a medical school in Cairo, 87 women had positive urine test for high-risk HPV and 82 had pathologic findings of CIN 2 or CIN 3. 23 In a cross sectional study by Sargent et al, to compare the sensitivity of hrHPV testing for detection of CIN2+ in matched urine and cervical samples, the sensitivity of urine for detection of CIN2+ lesions was 83% for urine and 89% for cervical sample. 24 Ornskov et al conducted a study between paired urine, cervical and vaginal specimen.…”
