Urgent Endovascular Repair of an Anterior Tibial Artery Aneurysm: Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract: True aneurysms of the anterior tibial artery are rare with less than 20 published reports in the literature. We report an urgent endovascular repair of a true anterior tibial artery aneurysm in a patient with Ehlers-Danlos type IV, vascular type. This approach resulted in an uneventful recovery without the elevated risks associated with open vascular repair in the setting of connective tissue disorder. Continuous follow-up in the subsequent 4 years has demonstrated durability and efficacy of the original inter… Show more

“… 18 In patients with vEDS, stent grafts and coil embolization have been used to treat enlarging or ruptured infrapopliteal aneurysms. 6 , 7 , 8 Complications included stent graft occlusion at 1 month. 7 We performed successful endovascular treatment of a TPT pseudoaneurysm with continued stent patency at 1 month postoperatively.…”

“…Medium and larger caliber vessels are typically affected in vEDS (2), with the management of infrageniculate disease rarely reported (6)(7)(8). Here we present a case of a 32 yearold male with vEDS complicated by acute left lower extremity compartment syndrome, treated with four compartment fasciotomy.…”

“…7 Given the rarity of EDS, literature concerning endovascular management of associated complications is scarce overall. [8][9][10][11] More specifically, there are less reported cases concerning whether an endovascular approach is effective for management of failed open repairs of focal dissections in this population. [12][13][14] Herein, we report successful endovascular repair of a Stanford type B aortic dissection subsequent to open repair of a small intercostal artery tear in an EDS patient.…”
