Urethral‐fixation technique improves early urinary continence recovery in patients who undergo retropubic radical prostatectomy

Abstract: The urethral-fixation technique significantly improves early urinary continence recovery in comparison with the standard technique. Moreover, our study confirmed that this surgical technique is an independent predictor of urinary continence recovery at 1, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after catheter removal.

“…Indeed, studies evaluating surgical techniques and outcomes after RARP have been more appealing to editors and scientific committees in comparison with those on RRP. After an initial stage in which open surgeons were pushed by robotic ones to improve their technique, in recent years very few data have come from open surgery [4,5]. Regardless of the results of the Australian RCT, robotic technology has become an essential component in the armamentarium of modern urologists.…”
