Cities are important themes in music, and their related urban identities have framed continuously the various contexts of popular music in the recent decades. This article addresses some issues in Music Geographies focusing on how cities and towns appear in popular music and in its related culture. Particularly, the study unveils the presence of the cities and towns in music, decoding the main themes of their identities behind the lyrics and the musical messages. Firstly, the research shows the presence of the cities in music through continental and regional scales mapping, to identify the spatial distribution of cities in popular music. Secondly, their incidence is considered to understand their presence in various songs, with many of them being emblematic songs in the culture of popular music. Thirdly, some case-studies at continental scale are investigated through particular methods to unveil the main issues of urban identities. The research bases on quantitative investigation, GIS, visual methodologies and lyrics analysis. The main findings argue that, at different regional scales of analysis, cities and their urban identities are omnipresent themes in popular music. They are an integral part of contemporary Music Geographies, with relevant spatial and cultural inequalities, thus opening new avenues for further research.

This study aims to analyze the representation of Istanbul in the Independent Cinema of Turkey. My study focuses on Istanbul not only because Istanbul presents an opportunity for micro-scaled analysis for Turkey, but also because of the fact that the cinema of Turkey being Istanbul-oriented. I focus on the major political and sociological turning points of Turkey and how all these transformations have altered the presentation of Istanbul in the movies of the same period. The migration remained to be one of those main turning points in people's life and their conditions -in particular migration from rural to urban -on which this study is focused.

In recent decades, modernization is extensively changing the face of Iranian cities. Besides, urban places are losing their traditional features, identity and cultural characteristics. Conservation of cultural heritage resources may rescue historical parts of the cities; hence, other traditional urban spaces do not receive enough attention and protection due to economic concerns. Mashhad, as one of the main religious touristic destinations in Iran, is unfortunately losing its traditional features due to extensive attractions of physical transformations. Economic profits fascinating constructions into the city center of Mashhad, specially surrounding areas of the holly shrine. This issue has been led to demolishment of the old texture of the city center. Sarshoor bazaar is one of rescued traditional urban public spaces in city center of Mashhad with typical characteristics of an Iranian ancient bazaar. This study mainly focuses on cultural and aesthetical patterns of traditional Iranian bazaars in order to provide a conceptual strategy for revitalization of Sarshoor bazaar. To this aim, a theoretical review is provided through main representative factors of cultural landscape to decide about a proper strategy for improving cultural quality of the selected case study. We also provide a practical analysis through social and behavioral patterns of the citizens and pilgrims in public spaces to realize material and immaterial features of Sarshoor bazaar, and
