This research aims to describe the development strategies of students' (Santri) digital literacy skills in modern Islamic boarding schools through Civics Education Learning Community Education. Civics Education is a school subject that has a strategic role in shaping the young citizens' digital competence. The development of digital literacy in Santri discussed in this research is divided into two aspects, among others are the technology literacy and information literacy. This research is designed with qualitative research methods. The data collection technique applied purposive sampling. The research subjects were both students and teachers of Civics Education subject in Modern Islamic Boarding School. The data collection technique carried out by applying interview techniques, observation and document analysis. The data analysis techniques cover the data reduction, data presentation, conclusion, and verification. Before conducting this research regarding the Santri's digital literacy development strategies, researchers first explored santri's digital literacy skills. The results of this research indicated that, there is a digital divide phenomenon among the santri(s)' attitudes and pesantren with regard to current policies using technological advancements. Then, the development of digital literacy skills is identifiable from the learning and evaluation process. The development of digital literacy skills through the learning process of Civics Education carried out through using digital media. It effectively helps santri develop their skills using technology, in addition to developing santri(s') in processing information through digital media. The Santri's learning skills in using digital media using the Civics Education reflects common effective strategies in developing their skills in realizing information, searching, and using information

The Research based on an intercultural contact approach is significant to study the traditional settlements and to support the preservation of local culture-based architecture in Indonesia. The Kaenbaun village inhabited by Dawan tribes is a vernacular village and organized based on local resources (physical-natural, technological, economic, social and cultural) fully. It is believed that even the ancestral spirits were involved in structuring settlements and the process of village life. The Kaenbaun's culture is a mixture of Dawan culture and the faith and dogma of the Catholic church which form Kaenbaun's wisdom and underlie the behavior of citizens and the spatial layout of Kaenbaun's settlements. The study was conducted by using field observation guided by Husserlian phenomenological paradigm. The data were processed based on inductive-qualitative thinking by using the field notes taken from field research activities in 2004 to 2010. Data were also supplemented by actual information gathered in 2010-2018 through digital media. The result showed that the local wisdom of Kaenbaun (Kaenbaun's wisdom) emerged from the Dawan culture with the acculturation of Catholic faith and dogma becoming a guideline for the behavior of citizens and the spatial structure of the Kaenbaun village settlement architecture. The Kaenbaun's wisdom is the concept of Kaenbaun's ideal life where humans live in harmony with their fellow humans, harmony with nature, blessed by their ancestors and blessed by God.

The flooding in Medan due to heavy rainfall area has become a daily problem to the community who lives in the riverbanks. It has been happening since many decades ago, but they are still there. Information on the vulnerability to natural hazards on a local level may help decision makers, stakeholders, and others to make better decisions regarding an effective disaster management. This study uses a qualitative approach to measure the level of vulnerability of communities in facing floods. The study identified how the communities perceive their exposure to the hazard, their sensitivity and their adaptive capacity. This study found the community already accept floods as a part of their life although the floods cause many losses. The experience in facing floods, strong social neighbourhood and strong local leadership are the capitals of the communities to survive. So vulnerability assessment at the community level should be constructed based on the perception and meaning of the community.
