Urban geology: Mississippian on the main street

Abstract: Exposures of fossiliferous rocks in quarries and on coastlines may be locally common, but some of us are too far removed to see them on a regular basis. Yet fossils may be just around the corner, quite literally, in an urban environment. Fossils in building stones may be well exposed and include specimens of well‐known groups rubbing shoulders with the more obscure. But you have to get your eye in to identify these 3‐dimensional objects exposed in two dimensions.
