Urban Form Dynamics and Modelling towards Sustainable Hinterland Development in North Cianjur, Jakarta–Bandung Mega-Urban Region

Abstract: The urban form is the physical configuration of a city, developed over time and space. Urban form can be considered at different scales, from region to neighborhood, each carrying a different focus. North Cianjur serves as the hinterland and one of the conurbation corridors of the Jakarta–Bandung Mega-Urban Region, meaning that the balance between its function as an environmental buffer area and the destination of urban growth needs to be planned carefully. This paper explores the dynamics in North Cianjur and… Show more

“…Lack of zoning is a common thing in protected areas in developing countries affect to the reduction function of the area [12].The zoning system is a determination of use and control of space into blocks/zones that have the ability to control urban sprawl as a result of the expansion of residential needs [13]. Quantitative zoning method is a zoning approach based on the similarity or homogeneity of an area by using several quantitative variables [13]. The quantitative zoning was introduced by Rustiadi and Kobayasi [14].…”

“…In this study, quantitative zoning becomes a tool that can explain which part of the development area of IKN should be zoned with several variable considerations. The result has several zones: urban, peri-urban, and rural which urban zones stand for center of activities in a region, peri-urban and rural zones being support system [13] .…”

“…Based on the results of this analysis, it still requires elaboration to get a fixed peri-urban demarcation methodology. The spatial clustering approach allows it to be a good methodology for determining this peri-urban demarcation, such as the research of [27,51,52,53].…”

“…A spatial metric is an approach that can be used to formulate spatial patterns of a regional morphology based on matrix values [17]. Spatial metrics can analyze an area's structure, shape, and spatial pattern at the patch, class of patch, and landscape levels [18]. Spatial metrics can also measure land cover change and identify urban forms and urban sprawl phenomena [17].…”
