Uranyl tris-(carbohydrazide) nitrate [UO2((N2H3)2CO)3](NO3)2: synthesis, structure and properties

Abstract: The complex [Cu(en) 2 (H 2 O)](sy) 2 (en)(H 2 O) 2 has been synthesized and characterized by its electronic and vibrational spectra. The molecular structure of the complex has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The complex crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with unit-cell parameters a = 10.7236 (5), b = 20.4660(10), c = 14.4523(11)Å and Z = 4. In the cation, the Cu(II) ion has a distorted square pyramidal coordination with two bidendate (en) ligands forming the basal plane and a H 2 O… Show more

“…24 [UO 2 ((N 2 H 3 ) 2 CO) 3 ](NO 3 ) contains carbohydrazide (hydrazine derivative) and vigorously decomposes exothermally at 215 °C with the formation of U 3 O 8 under inert conditions. 25 One may conclude that U( vi ) complexes with reactants similar to hydrazine have higher thermal stability, though the reduction of U( vi ) is going deeper and may even lead to the formation of UO 2 .…”

“…It is known [7] that the uranyl ion formed complexes with carbohydrazide molecules and it was obtained in a solid form. It could be suggested that in the solutions with low acidity such complex can be formed with plutonyl and neptunyl ions.…”
