Uranium Speciation in Solution by Time-Resolved Laser-Induced Fluorescence

Abstract: Complexation studies of radionuclides (such as uranium) are important to perform in order to predict their migration behavior in natural systems. Time-resolved laserinduced fluorescence, which is a very selective and sensitive method for actinide and lanthanide analysis, is used to study the interactions between uranyl cation and hydroxide ions at low uranium concentration (0.4 pM). The principle of the study is based on time resolution and spectral convolution since free uranyl ion (UOz2+) and 6rst hydroxide … Show more

“…In the case where the log 10 K values would be assumed for the various equilibria, as is commonly done in the literature, 12,14,15,22,23,31,32 this would restrict the species attributions to those being present in the pH range for which the peaks are observed. In the case where the log 10 K values would be sought from the TRES measurements, as has been done for various systems, 8,14,33,36 this would set some limits to the equilibrium reaction constants involving these species.…”

“…In the pH range 5 to 7, other cationic species (such as UO 2 OH + , and (UO 2 ) 3 (OH) 5 + ) as well as neutral and anionic species (such as UO 2 CO 3 , and (UO 2 ) 2 CO 3 (OH) 3 -) are important. At pH values much above 8, only anionic species (such as UO 2 (CO 3 ) 2 2-and UO 2 (CO 3 ) 3 4-) tend to be significant [1,2].…”

“…La SLRT a été utilisée depuis quelques années dans de nombreuses applications de dosages d'actinides ou de terres rares par mesures de fluorescence (Berthoud, 1988 ;Deniau, 1993 ;Moulin, 1990 ;Moulin, 1995). Son application au dosage de l'uranium dans les urines est relativement récente (Decambox, 1991).…”
