Uptake of Pb(II) Ions from Simulated Aqueous Solution via Nanochitosan

Abstract: In this work, nanochitosan (NC) was prepared through ionic gelation using low molecular weight chitosan and maleic acid (MA). The synthesized NC was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). During preparation, the particle size of the material depended on parameters such as concentration of chitosan and pH of the aqueous solution. After controlling the mentioned parameters, NC smaller than 100 nm was prepared. The ch… Show more

“…In this work, the Langmuir isotherm showed better R 2 values than the other two models. This suggests that the adsorption of C 10 H 8 onto DSP and CDP was a monolayer, and the homogenous interaction dominated the adsorption process [ 10 , 35 , 36 , 37 ]. The magnitude of n obtained for the Freundlich model was greater than 1, reflecting the strong affinity between C 10 H 8 with DSP and CDSP samples both ( Table 1 ).…”

“…Thus, it is more efficient to supplement fishmeal-based diet with CSNP that has higher effective chelation capacity for heavy metal compared to CS. Small size, large surface and high stability may be the reasons for CSNP high ability of chelation (Seyedmohammadi et al, 2016;Zareie et al, 2019). The higher density of adsorption sites of CSNP increases the probability of coordinate bond formation between the CSNP functional group and heavy metals compared to CS (Yu et al, 2013).…”
