ResumoObjetivou-se avaliar efeitos de doses de potássio aplicadas via fertirrigação no acúmulo de biomassa e desempenho produtivo de cultivares de morangueiro no litoral cearense. O experimento foi conduzido a pleno sol, no período de abril a agosto de 2012, em Fortaleza, Ceará. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 5×2, referente a cinco doses de potássio (0,65 g; 0,97 g; 1,29 g; 1,61 g e 1,93 g por planta, semanalmente) aplicadas via fertirrigação e duas cultivares de morangueiro (Oso grande e Verão), em cinco repetições. Aos 40 dias após o transplantio iniciou-se a colheita dos frutos, que foram avaliados semanalmente quanto ao seu número por planta, ao diâmetro, ao comprimento, ao peso médio e à produtividade. A adubação potássica estimula a produção de matéria seca da parte aérea e da raiz para as cultivares de morango Oso grande e Verão. A dose de potássio 0,65 g por planta foi a mais eficiente para o número de frutos por planta para a cultivar Oso grande e para o peso médio de fruto com a Verão. O aumento da concentração de potássio reduz a produtividade das cultivares de morango Oso grande e Verão. A cultivar Oso grande apresenta maior adaptabilidade às condições climáticas do litoral cearense do que a Verão.Palavras-chave: Fragaria x ananassa Duch, adubação, produtividade. Potassium fertirrigation of strawberry crop in Ceará AbstractThis study was aimed at evaluating the effects of potassium doses applied by fertigation on biomass accumulation and yield performance of strawberry cultivars in the Ceará coast. The experiment was conducted in full sunlight, in the interval from April to August 2012, in Fortaleza, Ceará. Treatments were disposed in a randomized blocks design, in a 2×5 factorial arrangement, consisting of five potassium doses (0.65, 0.97, 1.29, 1.61 and 1.93 g plant per week) and two strawberry cultivars (Oso Grande and Verão), with five replicates. At the 40th day after transplanting, the fruit harvesting started. The fruits were evaluated weekly, relatively to the the number of fruits per plant, fruit diameter, fruit length, average fruit weight and, at the end of the harvest period, the total yield. Potassium fertilization stimulates the production of dry matter of shoot and root for strawberry cultivars Oso grande and Verão. A potassium dose of 0.65 g plant -1 was the most efficient potassium dose (for fruit number per plant) for the Oso Grande cultivar and (for the average fruit weight) for the Verão cultivar. Increased potassium concentration reduces the yield of strawberry cultivars Oso grande and Verão. The Oso grande cultivar has higher adaptability to climatic conditions of Ceará than Verão.

The impact of strawberry production on nitrate contamination of groundwater is of major concern in the central coast region of California. Nitrogen (N) fertilization and irrigation management practices were monitored in a total of 26 fall-planted annual strawberry (Fragaria ×ananassa Duch.) fields in 2010 and 2011. Soil mineral N (SMN, top 30 cm depth) was determined monthly. Irrigation applied was monitored, and crop evapotranspiration (ETc) was estimated. Growers were surveyed regarding their N fertilization practices. Aboveground biomass N accumulation was estimated by monthly plant sampling in seven fields. The effect of preplant controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) rate on fruit yield was investigated in three fields. The growers’ CRF application rate (121 or 86 kg·ha−1 N as 18N–3.5P–10.8K, 7- to 9-month release rating) was compared with a half rate (all fields) and no CRF in one field. The rate of N release from this CRF product was evaluated using a buried bag technique. Median CRF N and total seasonal N application (CRF + in-season fertigation through drip irrigation) were 101 and 260 kg·ha−1, respectively, with total seasonal N application varying among fields from 141 to 485 kg·ha−1. Biomass N accumulation was slow through March (less than 25 kg·ha−1) and then increased by ≈1.1 kg·ha−1·d−1 from April through mid-September. Mean seasonal biomass N accumulation was estimated at 225 kg·ha−1 by 15 Sept. Approximately 70% of CRF N was released before 1 Apr. Biomass N accumulation between planting and April was much lower than the combined amount of CRF N release and SMN decline over that period, suggesting substantial winter N loss. Conversely, N loss during the summer harvest season (May through August) appeared limited in most fields. Median SMN was maintained below 10 mg·kg−1, and median irrigation was 113% of estimated ETc during this period. Reduction in CRF rate did not affect marketable fruit yield in two of three trials; an 8% yield reduction was observed in the remaining trial when the CRF rate was reduced, but the decline may have been affected by spring irrigation and fertigation practices.

Strawberry (Fragaria ananasa), belongs to rosaceae family, which is rich in vitamins and minerals. The requirement of optimized media is very important because plant growth is largely dependent upon the physiochemical properties of the growing media usded for high yield and economic production of crops. Present study was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of strawberry in the different media and combination of the macro nutrients. Different media combination were used including soil, peat moss and soil+peat combination in equal proportion. Foliar application of NPK at weekly interval was done with 4ppm, 6ppm and 8ppm.The design was CRD with 3 replicates. Results revealed that strawberry plant showed better response in peat moss media with 6 and 8 ppm foliar application of NPK. Chlorophyll content at vegetative stage was maximum (19.6) at 6ppm, while at reproductive stage it was (23.69) with 4 ppm foliar application in peat moss. Maximum Number of fruits (7.21) were obtained in peat moss. Fruit weight (23.52), leaf area (625.86) and total soluble solids (7.33) were recorded maximum in peat moss with 8 and 6 ppm foliar application of NPK as compared to control. The color and the taste were also good in peatmoss media with higher doses of macro nutrients. So, plants grown in peat moss growing media showed significant increase in all parameters and gave better performance of strawberry growth and development both in vegetative as well as ass reproductive parameters.
