Upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α and the lipid metabolism pathway promotes carcinogenesis of ampullary cancer

Abstract: Ampullary cancer is a rare periampullary cancer currently with no targeted therapeutic agent. It is important to develop a deeper understanding of the carcinogenesis of ampullary cancer. We attempted to explore the characteristics of ampullary cancer in our dataset and a public database, followed by a search for potential drugs. We used a bioinformatics pipeline to analyze complementary (c)DNA microarray data of ampullary cancer and surrounding normal duodenal tissues from five patients. A public database from… Show more

“…Delays in diagnosis and treatment that worsen the patient’s outcomes, along with the enormous burdens resulting from long-term and high-cost therapies, have once again undisputedly driven BRCA to become a major public health concern for scientists [ 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 ]. Clinical practice reveals that the heterogeneity of this disease, observed in both staging systems and histopathologic classification based on molecular standpoints, may complicate the accurate stratification and challenge the selection of respective therapeutic strategies [ 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 ]. Despite years of extraordinary efforts to enhance our knowledge of its biology and improve surgical treatments and chemotherapies, patient prognoses with advanced BRCA have not substantially improved.…”

“…The second part determined the biological processes, disease biomarker networks, and breast neoplasm cell-cell signaling pathways using a MetaCore analysis. Furthermore, a GO analysis was also implemented to describe genes and gene products from three categories: cell compositions, molecular functions (MFs), and biological processes (BPs) [ 38 , 39 , 40 ].…”

“…The second part determined the biological processes, disease biomarker networks, and breast neoplasm cell-cell signaling pathways using the MetaCore analysis ( , accessed on 30 November 2020). Furthermore, a gene ontology (GO) analysis was also implemented to describe genes and gene products from three categories: cell composition, molecular function, and biological processes [ 41 , 42 , 43 ]. The source database for integrating and interpreting genomic information and chemical and systems information was The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG).…”
