A palynological study of the upper Silurian Ö ved-Ramsåsa Group in Skåne, Sweden yields a well preserved spore assemblage with low relative abundances of marine microfossils. In total, 26 spore taxa represented by 15 genera were identified. The spore assemblage is dominated by long-ranging cryptospore taxa, and the trilete spore Ambitisporites avitus-dilutus. However, key-species identified include Artemopyra radiata, Hispanaediscus lamontii, H. major, H. verrucatus, Scylaspora scripta and Synorisporites cf. libycus. Importantly, Scylaspora klintaensis was identified, allowing correlation with the Klinta 1 drillcore (Skåne). A Ludlow age is inferred for the exposed succession, which agrees well with previous conodont stratigraphy. The organic residue is dominated by phytodebris and spores, but with high relative abundances of acritarchs at two levels, possibly related to flooding surfaces.Based on the palynofacies analysis, a near-shore marine environment is proposed. The close proximity to land is inferred by the high proportions of spores, and the dispersed assemblage most likely represents the local flora growing on delta plains. The palynological signal also infers a stable terrestrial environment and vegetation, in contrast to unstable conditions in the marine environment characterised by ooid formation in an evaporitic environment. Comparisons with coeval spore assemblages from Gotland, Avalonia and Laurentia show relatively close similarities in taxonomic composition at the generic level.

The palynological assemblages of the upper part of the Los Espejos Formation and the lower part of the Talacasto Formation, in the northern outcrops of San Juan Precordillera, Argentina, were studied. This section spans the Silurian/Devonian boundary. Therefore the palynological analysis helps to constrain the age and to identify the position of the system boundary. This age interval has been much discussed owing to the scarcity of stratigraphically valuable fossils. The miospores and marine phytoplankton present in the upper part of the Los Espejos Formation, point to a Late Ludlow/ Přídolí? to early Lochkovian age. The occurrence of relevant biostratigraphic species such as Dictyotriletes cf. emsiensis Morphon, Cymbosporits proteus, Amicospopites streeli and the possible presence of Streelispora newportensis, permit the identification of the Silurian/Devonian boundary within the Los Espejos Formation. This system boundary is recorded for the first time in the Precordillera based on palynological assemblages. The position of this limit coincides with that established based on faunal data. A Lochkovian age is also confirmed in the lower part of the overlaying Talacasto Formation in the studied section, thus supporting previous palynological and fauna data.

The Silurian constitutes a key period in the evolutionary history of land plants. However, records of Pridolian plants in western Gondwana are scarce, limited to outcrops located in southern Bolivia. In this contribution, an association of fossil plants housed in the Rinconada Formation, San Juan Province,Argentina, is presented. This association corresponds to fossil remains of primitive flora with reproductive structures and sterile axes linked to basal tracheophytes. The fossil assemblage is composed of Salopella marcensis, Hostinella sp, Aberlemnia caledonica, Cooksonia paranensis, C. pertoni, C. cambrensis, Steganoteca striata, Isidrophyton sp, Caia langii, two morphotypes of doubtful taxonomy, and graptolites colonies. The association between flora remains and graptolites, represents a parautochthonous fossil assemblage in an inner marine platform, dominated by gravity flows. This fossil record has paleophytogeographic importance since it allows extending the northwest Gondwana-southern Laurrusia unit to more southern areas of Gondwana. This expansion would have been favoured by the post-glacial climatic improvement of the late Silurian, together with a great radiation capacity and environmental flexibility of the flora. Furthermore, this contribution extends the biocron of three South American taxa (A. caledonica, C. paranensis and Isidrophyton sp) first known from the Lochkovian, to the Pridoli.
