La reticulohistiocitosis multicéntrica (RHM) es una histiocitosis de células no Langerhans, multisistémica, rara, caracterizada por afectación cutánea y articular, que poco frecuentemente afecta a otros órganos. El diagnóstico se basa en hallazgos clínicos y resultados de biopsias de piel o sinovial, sin describirse un parámetro de laboratorio específico. Realizamos una revisión de la literatura en relación a las características clínicas de esta entidad desde el punto de vista reumatológico.

The authors present part I of a review of multicentric reticulohistiocytosis, a rare systemic proliferative disease of histiocytes of unknown cause. It is clinically characterized by cutaneous and mucosal nodules and by osteoarticular lesions. The disease occurs in outbreaks that progress in severity, with spontaneous regression, but usually leaving incapacitating arthritis and disfiguring facial lesions. The authors discuss the historical, epidemiologic, and clinical aspects of this disease.
