Uplink Energy Efficiency Distribution With Aerial Users in Cellular Networks

Abstract: The power consumption of future user equipments (UEs) will be affected by the projected growth in their computing capacity, while data throughput may be affected by emerging aerial UEs with specific radio propagation conditions compared to terrestrial UEs. In such a context, this letter evaluates a key metric of interest, namely the probability that the uplink energy efficiency (EE) at a typical ground base station will be higher than a predefined threshold. We first characterize the priority bias of each UE l… Show more

“…As an illustration, we plot in Fig. 12 the fluctuations of the uplink terrestrial coverage EE, i.e., the probability that the uplink EE of terrestrial UEs is greater than a predefined threshold, as a function of aerial UEs parameters [267].…”

“…It will be easier to predict the CSI in 3-D positions based on the location information of terrestrial devices and communication performance [7]. Intuitively, the aerial platforms play a dominant role in the NTNs with 3-D mobility, flexibility, and adaptable altitude, who are often regarded as ABSs [8]- [10], relay platforms [11]- [13], or user equipment [14], [15] in NTNs. Different types of platforms possess distinct operating features, such as frequency bands or wavelength, the operating altitude, flight duration, and the size of platforms.…”
