Upgraded Valorization of Biowaste: Laser-Assisted Synthesis of Pd/Calcium Lignosulfonate Nanocomposite for Hydrogen Storage and Environmental Remediation

Abstract: Laser ablation in liquid (LAL), one of the promising pathways to produce nanoparticles, is used herein for the modification of the abundant biowaste, calcium lignosulfonate (CLS), adorning it with palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs). The ensuing Pd/CLS nanocomposite, fabricated via a simple stirring method, is deployed for hydrogen storage and environmental cleanup studies; a hydrogen storage capacity of about 5.8 C g −1 confirmed that Pd NPs serve as active sites for the adsorption of hydrogen. Additionally, the… Show more

“…Although the use of shells as biosorbents has already been documented in the literature for removal of dyes and metal ions from wastewater, the presented work focuses on the use of mollusk shells as a flux. The shells were used as a flux and modifier for the molten phase devitrification of waste glass. Having high functionalized and crystalline structure, the mollusk shell promotes the in situ formation of properly templated carbon and char moieties during the devitrification reaction.…”

“…For instance, bio-wastes such as bone wastes have been successfully utilized for the production of nano-catalyst and biofuels for various applications ( Nasrollahzadeh et al., 2020a ). Recently, researchers have also valorized bio-wastes via novel technologies for the production of nanocomposites targeted at hydrogen storage and environmental remediation ( Mohazzab et al., 2020 ; Nasrollahzadeh et al., 2020b ). Thus, the growing interest in the conversion of bio-wastes into valuable products seems to be rising as more bio-waste materials emerge.…”

“…Hence, it is not desirable to landfill eggshell waste directly due to environmental concerns. Instead, eggshell waste can be potentially reused to eliminate the environmental threat and produce a high economic value ( Xu et al, 2019 ; Mohazzab et al, 2020 ; Punj and Singh, 2020 ).…”
