Updates on Device-Based Therapies for Patients with Heart Failure

Abstract: Multiple investigational trials had been conducted in the past decade that helped us better understand and manage heart failure. In this manuscript, we will discuss the major device related trials of year 2017 in the fields of defibrillators, hemodynamic monitoring, remote monitoring, autonomic nervous system modulation, ventricular assist devices, and device-based valvular heart disease management. Further research and trials in device-based therapies are needed to explore their long-term reduction in mortali… Show more

“…22 Tight INR control can ensure adequate anticoagulation and minimize adverse events associated with sub-or supra-therapeutic anticoagulation. [23][24][25] Maintaining INRs in a therapeutic range can be time-consuming and cumbersome given the clinical complexity and risk inherent in this patient population. We report a single center experience with an NCDOP.…”

“…We obtained the permission of the scale developer for its Korean translation and use. The validity of the translation process was secured by following guidelines for scale translation and application (Beaton et al, 2000). The final version of the scale was reached by conducting forward translation, expert panel review, backtranslation, pre-testing and cognitive interview.…”

Although the number of patients with heart failure is steadily increasing worldwide, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) insertion is attracting attention as an alternative to heart failure treatment when heart transplantation proves insufficient (Al Danaf et al, 2018) and LVAD implantation has become a common approach for life sustain if heart transplant is not an option (Virani et al, 2021). Still, because LVAD implantation has been a highly technical operation since 2010, the U.S. and Europe have focused on its quantitative growth (Standing et al, 2018;Virani et al, 2021).
