“…In an interesting study from Denmark and Sweden a single dose of Curosurf (200 mg/kg) given to babies with moderate RDS, who were being treated with nasal CPAP, reduced the need for subse quent mechanical ventilation [12], Further studies are being undertaken to assess this method of administering Curosurf in babies with milder RDS [16]. Animal studies suggest that a rapid bolus administration of surfac tant is superior to slow infusion over 45 min [ 13] and rapid infusion over 5 min [ 16]. Rap id bolus administration gives a more homoge neous surfactant distribution in the lung and this is associated with better oxygenation.…”
