Update on gastric cancer treatments and gene therapies

Abstract: Gastric cancer is an active topic of clinical and basic research due to high morbidity and mortality. To date, gastrectomy and chemotherapy are the only therapeutic options for gastric cancer patients, but drug resistance, either acquired or primary, is the main cause for treatment failure. Differences in development and response to cancer treatments have been observed among ethnically diverse GC patient populations. In spite of major incidence, GC Asian patients have a significantly better prognosis and respo… Show more

“…Currently, chemotherapy is widely used as the main treatment for GC. However, the side effects and the development of resistance to chemotherapy in clinical practice reveal its limitations and have prompted more attention to be paid to the study of complementary treatments (Biagioni et al, 2019).…”

“…GC is a common malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality. Even though the advancement in the gastrectomy and chemotherapy of GC patients, treatment failure occurs frequently due to the drug resistance [20] . Thus, it is urgent to explore novel diagnostic markers or treatment therapies for GC.…”

“…In the clinic, surgical resection remains an important method for the treatment of gastric cancer [3]. Although new technologies such as gene therapy have been developed in recent years, the high cost makes it difficult to become widely applied as a viable treatment [4]. As a result, there remains an urgent need to discover new anti-gastric cancer drugs that can overcome the aforementioned problems.…”
