Up-regulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma in radiation-induced heart injury in rats

Abstract: To explore the expression level and the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) in radiation-induced heart injury in a rat model, thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups (the control group, the 15-Gy irradiation group and the 18-Gy irradiation group). Experimental animals were exposed to radiation generated by a linear accelerator at the chest and killed after 3 months. Heart tissues from these animals were removed for Masson staining, PPAR-γ immunohistochemical … Show more

“…In line with this, a selective increase in ACSL4 was observed in the testes and livers of high-fat diet animals through the activation of PPARδ ( Kan et al, 2015 ). Consistent with these findings, RT increases PPAR δ in normal tissue and decreases it in tumor tissue ( Linard et al, 2008 ; Yang et al, 2011 ; Gao et al, 2012 ; Mangoni et al, 2017 ; Kaur et al, 2019 ). These findings imply that peroxisomes act as a dominant linker between FA metabolism and IR to generate ferroptosis.…”

“…Furthermore, fibrotic areas in AS+I/R groups were lower than I/R and Captopril group in Fig. 4 (B) [18]. The results of masson staining were consistent with HE staining.…”

“…In line with our study, the level of PPARγ was increased 3 months after high-dose chest irradiation (15 Gy, 18 Gy) in Sprague−Dawley rats. 65 No radiation-induced enhancement in the PPARγ level is seen in the homozygous mutant lacking the PPARα protein. This may be due to the higher basal level of PPARγ in the homozygous mutant that is indicated by our data in this tudy but did not reach statistical significance.…”
