Unveiling Peritoneum Membrane for a Robust Triboelectric Nanogenerator

Abstract: Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are smart alternative energy harvesters to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy to power small and portable electronic devices. A key challenge in fabricating an efficient TENG lies in the choice of an active material in addition to the mechanical stability and robust output performance of the device. This report suggests, for the first time, the use of a peritoneum membrane as a triboelectrically positive material for designing TENGs. The peritoneum covers the … Show more

“…As the active area of the device increases, the effective contact electrification also increases proportionally, which results in the increase in voltage and current. The reported literature well supports the observed behavior of the TENG with the area of the devices. , Further, the effect of applied hand slapping force on the TENG output was studied and is presented in Figure c,d. The TENG output voltage and the current are increased gradually with the applied force.…”

“…47 Besides this, the observed asymmetry in the positive and negative voltage peaks is attributed to the difference between the external force applied on the device and the restoring force. 49 These results are consistent with the dependence of the crystal structure deformation on the applied mechanical stress.…”

“…However, as traditional power supply methods, batteries and capacitors require frequent charging and maintenance due to limited capacitance, which affect the continuous operation and stability of wearable electronics, especially in harsh environments. , At the same time, discarded batteries/capacitors also cause serious pollution to the environment. Therefore, developing high-performance sustainable energy technologies becomes one of the important research topics. In 2012, Wang’s group first invented the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) that can convert various kinds of mechanical energies into electrical energy for self-powered electronics, such as human motion energy, vibration energy, , wind energy, , rain drop energy, water wave energy, , and sound energy. , With continuous research and progress, the output performance of TENGs have been greatly improved, which facilitates their practical process in daily life. It plays a very good supplementary role to traditional energy and is of great significance to the realization of carbon neutrality goals.…”
