Unusual Bladder Metastasis from a Primary Gastric Carcinoma: Two Case Reports and Review of Literature

Abstract: Primary bladder cancer is a frequent malignancy in the urology field, whereas secondary bladder neoplasms from a distant organ are extremely rare. This paper aims to report two rare cases of a secondary tumor of the urinary bladder from a primary gastric tumor and to perform a literature review of similar reported cases in order to better characterize its clinicopathological features and diagnosis in effort to shed light on this rare condition. The final diagnosis of secondary adenocarcinoma was made histologi… Show more

“…Bladder metastases are usually located in the trigone region or the bladder neck and are usually unique unlike primary bladder tumor [ 2 ]. It must be evoked especially when histology shows adenocarcnima which is the most encountered subtype in bladder metastases [ 5 ]. Signet-ring cell carcinoma should directly lead to the exploration of the digestive tract [ 6 ].…”

“…The strings then became a nidus for the formation of a large bladder calculus. There have been numerous reports of IUDs translocating into the urinary bladder [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14], many of which describe encrustation or stone formation around the device. This may lead to the common symptoms suggestive of bladder calculi, including irritative symptoms, hematuria, and urinary tract infections, all of which occurred in our patient's case.…”

“…In contrast with NA, SATB2 is negative in most of the cases of other carcinomas with a possible signet-ring cell morphology, such as gastric adenocarcinoma and lobular breast carcinoma 15,31. Although metastatic bladder tumors are rare (2% of total vesical tumors), the stomach is the most common site of origin (4.3% of all secondary bladder neoplasms) 38,39. Lobular breast carcinomas metastatic to the bladder are very rare but some cases have been reported 40.…”
