Untersuchungen zur spät- und postglazialen Vegetationsgeschichte im nördlichen Bayern (Rhön, Grabfeld, Lange Berge)

Abstract: Palynological investigations of sediments from northern Bavaria (Rhön, Grabfeld, Lange Berge) reveal the Late Glacial and Postglacial history of the regional vegetation. The older sedirnents were found in the Rhön (Schwarzes Moor) and date back into the Bölling Period. At the end of that period pine spread into the Grabfeld. In both areas Lacher Tuff has been found. A radiocarbon date of 10,300 BP was found for the Late Glacial -Postglacial transition and one of 9300 BP for the Preboreal -Boreal transition. Haz… Show more

“…The highly differentiated relict diploid populations of K. arvensis might fit into this model. Diploid ancestors may have been present in ice-free central Europe during the late Pleistocene as suggested by Knautia pollen records from the Allerød interstadial [75] , [76] . Subsequently, the heliophilous plants were restricted to serpentine, limestone or subalpine refugia by the expanding forest vegetation (see the example of relict Knautia serpentine habitat in Fig.…”

“…High d 13 C values between the Late Glacial and the onset of the Holocene (Fig. 6a) point to an open, and possibly grassland vegetation, typical for periglacial conditions (Hahne 1991, Bebermeier et al 2018. After a short-lived excursion to drier and/or colder conditions shortly before 11 ka BP, the d 13 C record trended towards higher values for the next ca.…”

“…After a short-lived excursion to drier and/or colder conditions shortly before 11 ka BP, the d 13 C record trended towards higher values for the next ca. 2400 years, potentially indicative of an early coniferous forest (Hahne 1991;Bebermeier et al 2018).…”

“…In fact, the 10,600 cal BC 14 C age of the oldest peat in the Upper Vils River is quite close to the 11,700 b2k (before AD 2000) boundary in the NorthGRIP ice core, which was recently defined as Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the base of the Holocene Series/Epoch (Walker et al, 2008). With other Late Pleistocene sections from East Bavaria (e.g., Knipping, 1989;Hahne, 1991) the buried peat sequences of the Upper Vils River Valley can be a useful link to the chronostratigraphy of the Pleistocene/Holocene transition in Central Europe.…”

“…It is obvious that the sand facies was deposited at the beginning of, and/or following, the Early Holocene afforestation. Pollen profiles from East Bavaria prove the regeneration of wood vegetation with juniper and sallow thorn (Juniperus-Hippophae) in the Bölling chronozone at approximately 13,000 BP (Hahne, 1991). In principle, this is the first time when wood fragments could be incorporated into fluvial sequences in East Bavaria.…”
