Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über den Einsatz von öffentlichkeitsorientierten Kommunikationsmaßnahmen im Rahmen des Public-Affairs-Managements. Public Campaigning stellt den Versuch dar, über Themenmanagement Einfluss auf die öffentliche Meinung und die Wahrnehmung und Bewertung von Themen durch BürgerInnen zu nehmen, um darüber indirekt Einfluss auf politische Entscheidungsprozesse und politische Akteure auszuüben. Public Campaigning kann insofern als eine Antwort auf die fortschreitende Medialisierung der Politik angesehen werden. Im Beitrag wird die Bedeutung von Public Campaigning für unterschiedliche Organisationstypen erörtert, es werden unterschiedliche Merkmale von Public-Affairs-Kampagnen beschrieben und ausführlich Agenda Building und Framing als zwei zentrale Aspekte des Themenmanagements im Public Campaigning dargestellt.
