Unravelling Difference

Abstract: this article interrogates the possibility of developing a "sensory multiculture," in which difference could be encountered outside of domination or appropriation. It invokes alternative dialogic aesthetic practices for living with difference.

“…The introduction of various electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups on the aromatic ring of the nitroalkenes slightly affected enantioselectivities (84-98 % ee) and yields (79-95 %) (Table 5, entries 2-12). The use of cyclopentanecarboxaldehyde also furnished the desirable (87-99 % ee); however, long reaction times were necessary to achieve such results (Table 5, entries [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. The use of the CX18 monomer required a longer reaction time (60 h) to furnish 52 % yield and 89 % ee (Table 5, entry 22).…”

“…Chiral receptors that are based on calix[n]arene platforms may have potential applications, such as organocatalysts, [12] ionophores in catalysis, carriers in liquid membrane technology, anion and cation extractants and chemical sensors. [13] In this section, various calix[n]arenes synthesized and evaluated as organocatalysts, between the years 2012 to 2022, classified according to the group linked to the calix[n]arene skeleton will be presented and discussed.…”

“…While Ratnam (2018) stated that habitual practices create memories which shape identities, here the two combine, with ritualized exposure to unfamiliar sensorial experiences expanding one's sensory palate, reshaping what is deemed familiar and creating shared memories. These sensorial memories are felt collectively, thus bonding groups through the shared experience (Sharma, 2011). In the case of CISV International participants, the unfamiliarity of each other's habits and routines became familiar through sensorial exposure and created new collective feelings of what was familiar.…”
