Unit sheet weights of asphalt fractions determined by structural analysis

Abstract: itself should exactly represent the stoichiometry of the reaction. It seemed this was accomplished by the present method and the curve could readily be smoothed so as to permit precise extrapolation.

“…Average structural parameters for the various fractions from bitumen pitch were estimated from data provided by 'H NMR, elemental analysis and M n • (Brown and Ladner, 1960;Haley, 1972;Zhao et aI., 1999). These parameters are identified in Table II while the results are summarised in (Suzuki et aI., 1982).…”

“…Among the other techniques for measuring Mn, if we take industrial constraints into account (cost, measurement time and simplicity), the GPC (or SEC) method has been successfully used in the petroleum industry over the last 20 years [40,41,42,49,83], even though some of the problems of detection, calibration/correction and plugging of the column persist. The rise of SFC in the last 10 years is also to be noted [53] and [58].…”

“…Their method provides rigorous relations among the structure parameters but requires data from element analyses, NMR, and infrared (IR) spectroscopy as well as density and molecular weight determinations. The structures of Kuwait and Arabian asphalts were determined by Haley (4) and Dickinson (5). The equations which they proposed, are simpler and easier to apply than those of Hirsch and Altgelt (3).…”
