In this paper, we develop techniques to extract information from communication collisions involving passive UHF RFID tags. Our goal is to extract information that can enhance the performance of existing anti-collision protocols. Present RFID anti-collision protocols detect a collision at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer; however, the physical layer signal received during collisions is discarded. This signal contains valuable information, such as the number of tags communicating, that can be used in the anti-collision algorithms. Collecting and utilizing this currently discarded information would provide performance improvements to existing protocols and provide insights that can be used to guide the development of future protocols. We analyzed communication collisions from ISO 18000-6C compliant tags in their response to a Query command. Our techniques enabled us to reliably identify the exact number of tags in the collided slot for up to 4 tags communicating in that slot and the existence of at least 5 tags communicating in a slot with more than 4 tags communicating in that slot.

The efficacy of applying quantized soft decision data to unique word (vw) detection, which plays an important role in frame synchronization in digital radio transmission systems, is discussed considering hardware implementation. This UW detection method represents the received signal vector using representative points within a multidimensional space and measures the Euclidean distance from the vector point corresponding to the UW pattern.Probability calculations are employed for obtaining theoretically UW detection characteristics such as missed detection and false detection, assuming that white Gaussian noise is added to the signal during transmission.These various characteristics are then compared quantitatively with the characteristics obtained by the conventional UW detection method using hard decision data. In addition, the U W detection characteristics obtained experimentally using hardware are presented. As a result of the quantitative evaluations, it has been clarified that the application of soft decision data is effective in reducing the UW length required for objectives of the UW detection performance associated with frame synchronization characteristics. 80

This paper proposes a construction of a general‐purpose high‐speed correlator LSI, aiming at applications to various problems such as digital signal processing and synchronization word detection. A general method of constructing the rearrangement circuit as well as the generation of a highspeed detection pulse are presented, and are. important in the construction of a highspeed synchronization word detector, one of the major applications of the high‐speed digital correlator. It was shown by experiment that the developed general‐purpose high‐speed digital correlator has the feature that the parameters can be set in a flexible way according to the problem, and can operate up to 200 MHz by the one—chip structure (two‐parallel processing).
