“…The KENIS source combines molecular transport of the halogen atoms with dissociation of the molecule and negative ionization of the halogen component by Cs ion bombardment. A unique HfO 2 fiber target (described later) has been developed for use in this source with the reactions 16 O(d, n) 17 F and 16 O(α, pn) 18 F. Aluminum vapor is introduced into the target region by adding Al 2 O 3 to the target material. The fluorine atoms combine with Al to form relatively inert AlF molecules.…”
