Injection of formate-C14 yields, among other radiolabeled compounds, proline, serine, glutamic acid, uric acid, and allantoin; eventually these compounds are excreted or become incorporated into fly tissues (Cline and Pearce, 1963;Gilmour, 1961). Less than 50% of the sodium formate-C14 injected into houseflies is expired as C1402; therefore, if formate-C14 is one of the intermediates in metabolism of M-C14-DP compounds in flies, the amount of C1402 expired from flies probably represents only a portion of the attack at the MDP moiety.…”
