Unique Approach of a Telemedicine System for CBD-Infused Foods

Abstract: As medical cannabis is legalized, food safety management systems, including CBD (cannabidiol), have received attention from scientific and engineering perspectives. Observations attribute CBD changes in acidic environments and high temperatures to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). The current research focuses on employing and optimizing 3D printers, specifically material extrusion additive manufacturing processes for telemedicine applications to safely and accurately deliver CBD-infused food. Soft meat is prepared b… Show more

“…CBD-containing e-cigarettes, in a variety of flavors, are popular especially with young people . Although CBD is not psychoactive, it is possible that CBD may be converted to some THC-like compounds during acidic or heated evaporation. In the textile industry, the phenolic acids contained in hemp fibers give them antioxidant and antibacterial properties. CBD can be applied to the surface of textiles to possibly functionalize them with antioxidant, antiaging and skin improvement effects .…”

“…However, its use is still restricted in many parts of the world due to its addictive and hallucinatory properties. Recently, Kim et al (2021) successfully used CBD within food using modern 3-D technology for use with a telemedicine system. They reported no issue of printability with food materials even at high viscosity.…”

“…Naturally printable food materials such as cheese, hummus, chocolate and mashed potatoes have the potential to fabricate 3D‐printed products by extrusion‐based 3D printer because of shear‐thinning behaviour, extruded smoothly through a nozzle (Taneja et al ., 2022; Pérez et al ., 2019; Sun et al ., 2015). 3D food printing was successful to incorporate cannabidiol in several kinds of foods such as beef, chicken, mousse, cream cheese and chocolate (Kim et al ., 2021). Thus, it is possible to develop 3D‐printed food incorporated an active ingredient as a new option for personalised proposes.…”
