AIM:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of planned training, provided for mothers with 0-6 year old children, on their identifi cation of safety precautions for home accidents. METHODS:The experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the study. The data of the study was collected from 160 mothers who were registered to four family health centers in the city center of Kars, between February 2013 and May 2013 GirișBir konutun içinde ya da çevresinde meydana gelen kazalara ev kazaları denir 1 . Ev veya çevresinde ortaya çıkan bu kazalar, tüm kazaların yaklaşık yarısını oluş-turmaktadır 2 . Özellikle okul öncesi dönemde çocuklar ev kazaları ile daha çok karşı karşıya kalmaktadır 3,4 . Ev kazaları önlenebilir olmasına karşın, meydana geldiğinde morbidite ve mortaliteyi artırmakta, sakatlıklara ve yaralanmalara yol açabilmektedir 5,6 . Türkiye'de toplam çocuk ölümlerinin 1/3'ünü ev kazaları sebebiyle olmaktadır 7,8 .Ev kazaları, çocuğun kognitif olarak gelişmemesi, tehlikelerin farkında olmaması, ebeveyn davranışları ve ev çevresi ile ilişkilidir 9 . Sıfır ile altı arasındaki yaş grubu çocuklar, genelde kendilerini çevreleyen tehlikelerin farkında olmadıkları, keşfetme ve öğrenmeye önemli derecede düşkün oldukları için kasıtsız yaralanmalar yönünden yüksek riskli grubu oluştururlar 10 . Çocuğun yaşı, cinsiyeti, ailenin sosyo ekonomik seviyesi, ebeveynin yaşı ve eğitimi çocuğun ev kazası insidansını etkilemektedir 9 .

Background: Unintentional injuries are a growing global public health problem that causes mortality, morbidity and disability among children. These injuries are most common among under-fives and form a significant burden on healthcare systems, particularly in low and middle income countries. Home environment is a key element in injury prevention that should be investigated. In Palestine there is a paucity of research in this area.
