Amblyopia is a visual cortex neurodevelopmental condition cause am vision abnormalities during childhood. It is one of the most typical causes of vision loss at an early age. It occurs due to abnormal development of the visual cortex. The part receiving signals from the diseased eye does not receive it correctly and thus develops abnormally. This abnormal development during the critical period of growth of child results in brain damage. Depending on its aetiology the types of amblyopia are Strabismic amblyopia, Visual deprivation amblyopia, Anisometric, Ametropic, Meridional, Toxic amblyopia. Clinical features are visual acuity is reduced, the effect of neutral density filter, the Crowding phenomenon is present. Complications of amblyopia include a Lazy eye becoming weak permanently, the eye may move out from the visual axis (squints). When treating amblyopia, our goal is that the eyes will work together in unison at an equal level; this will create a clear vision in the lazy eye. Amblyopia is treated in various ways depending on the seriousness of the disease and the patient's age. Patching of the non-amblyopic eye, as well as treatment with drugs like atropine, are common treatments. Vision therapy and some modifications to spectacles and contact lenses have been discovered to be effective in treating amblyopia in recent years. Modern Treatment- Falling Blocks, Occlu-pad. With current breakthroughs in amblyopia therapy, the success rate of a multimodal strategy is also improving. The purpose of this review article is to present information on the management of amblyopia. Literature on AMBLYOPIA MANAGEMENT has been taken from PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and other internet resources.

Age related macular degeneration is degenerative disorder, which is more prevalent in the Western, developed countries but can become a major threat in India as well. It affects the macula and leads to the senescence of retinal pigment epithelium. Most commonly affected is the central vision as macula is involved in central vision. On Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) reduction in retinal epithelium can be seen along with accumulation of blood in the sub retinal space due to haemorrhage in the wet type of ARMD. It is a multifactorial disease and some of the major risk factors of this disease include sunlight exposure i.e. production of large amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS), smoking, blue iris etc. It is more commonly seen in females and in Caucasians. It is of two major types which include the dry type (85%) and the remaining wet type. Wet type is characterised by neovascularisation whereas the dry type shown the presence of drusens and hyperpigmentation of the retina on examination. Clinical features of this disease include gradual loss of vision, but in wet type due to fragile vessels there occurs haemorrhage which can lead to sudden loss of vision. ARMD can be prevented by introduction of telomerase in the treatment line. Telomerases help in increasing the life span of RPE, thereby delaying the senescence of the retinal cells. Other treatment modalities also include the administration of lutein, xeathanthine, various antioxidants and anti-VEGF (vascular endothelium growth factor) medication. All these measures together can help in reducing the number of cases of ARMD and providing a better vision to the older population to increase the quality of life.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disease in which the tear film’s homeostasis is lost, along with other ocular symptoms such as tear film instability and high osmolarity, neurosensory abnormalities, and ocular surface inflammation and damage. DED is a condition of lacrimal apparatus which is responsible for tear production. The tear film is a mixture of mucin, aqueous (water and solutes like NacI, sugar, urea, proteins,), lipids secreted by goblet cells, lacrimal glands, and meibomian glands, respectively. It keeps the eye moist, provides oxygen to the cornea, and has antibacterial properties. The lipid layer prevents the evaporation of the aqueous. DED is categorized into (i)Aqueous-tear deficiency, characterized by a deficiency of lacrimal glands to secrete tears, (ii)Evaporative DED, associated with increased tear loss by evaporation because there is a deficiency of the meibomian glands. The mechanism of DED might be loss of tear through evaporation or insufficient aqueous production or a combination of the two. DED is a widespread eye problem, which is often left untreated. It causes irritation, itching, dryness, foreign body sensation, and discomfort; severe case causes conjunctival congestion, keratinization, erosion of the corneal epithelium, and plaque formation. If left Univision- threatening vision-threatening, leading to complications like corneal ulceration and perforation. Various clinical tests are used to diose DED, including tear breakup time, tear osmolarity, Schirmer test, Rose Bengal staining, and expression of inflammatory markers. There is no cure for DED at present. The following modalities are used for its treatment: use of punctual and canalicular plugs, artificial tear products like polyethylene glycol/propylene glycol with guar HP, consuming food rich in omega-three fatty acids, antioxidants zeaxanthin, and lutein, Use of anti-inflammatory drugs, mucolytics, secretagogues. Reducing or avoiding mild risk factors like prolonged reading, prolonged use of contact lenses, excessive screen time, etc. Treatment of causative disease. Appropriate management and establishing reasonable patient expectations are necessary to ensure patient satisfaction and adherence to the treatment.
