Unilateral Augmented Pedicle Screw Fixation for Foraminal Stenosis

Abstract: Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of unilateral decompression and pedicle screw fixation for the unilateral symptomatic foraminal stenosis. Methods : The study group comprises consecutive 16 patients who underwent unilateral decompression and bone cement augmented pedicle screw fixation from May 2003 to January 2006. The patients were evaluated by visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and the scoring system of the Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) for low back pain. The re… Show more

“…However, there is no significant difference between the benefits gained by patients after either procedure. Unilateral pedicle screw stabilization with bone fusion is a treatment option for lumbar spondylosis and spondylolisthesis (6,9,10). Although there is no data available that compares the unilateral facetectomy (facetectomies) with bilateral dynamic pedicle screw stabilization or unilateral dynamic pedicle screw, the results of the ODI and VAS scores at the early follow up of the present study suggest that the unilateral dynamic stabilization after a unilateral facetectomy (facetectomies) is the treatment of choice.…”

“…The results were similar to those reported in the literature. [14] During the operation allogeneic bone grafting was used for every patient in CLIF group. Due to the choice of allogeneic bone, there is still a difference in long-term clinical result from autologous bone grafting in MIS-TLIF group.…”
