Abstract:Sparse coding, predictive coding and divisive normalization are thought to be underlying principles of neural circuits across the brain, supported by much experimental evidence. However, the connection among these principles is still poorly understood. In this paper, we aim to unify sparse coding, predictive coding, and divisive normalization in the context of a two-layer neural model. This two-layer model is constructed that implements sparse coding with the structure originating from predictive coding. Our r… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
