Unified Performance Analysis of MIMO Mixed RF/FSO Relaying System

Abstract: This paper investigates the asymmetric dual–hop multiple input multiple output (MIMO) mixed radio frequency (RF)/free space optical (FSO) decode–and–forward (DF) relaying system. This kind of system can utilize two different fading characteristic channels to reduce the possibility of the system falling into deep fading. In addition, each link of the system adopts MIMO technology to mitigate the disadvantages of fading. In this paper, the closed form expressions of the outage probability, bit error rate (BER) a… Show more

“…As mentioned in Section 4.1 , authors in [ 108 , 110 , 111 ] have used MIMO relays in their models to assist the communication system for successful transmission with high reliability. However, in this section, we will illustrate other communication systems that also integrated one or more relay nodes into their network.…”

“…Moreover, RF and FSO links were characterized by Rayleigh distribution and M-distributed fading, respectively. Some other works [11,12] examined the multi-diversity combining and selection schemes for the relay assisted mixed FSO/RF system with RF and FSO links being counted by Rayleigh and Gamma-Gamma fading channels, respectively [9].…”
