Abstract:Specimens made of various materials with different geometric features were investigated to predict the failure loads using the recently proposed criterion comprised of both stress and stress gradient conditions. The notch types were cracks and holes, and the materials were brittle, ductile, isotropic, orthotropic, or fibrous composites. The predicted failure stresses or loads were compared to experimental results, and both experimental and theoretically predicted results agreed well for all the different cases… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
