Unidirectional bowtie array antenna with incision gap for digital video broadcasting‐T2 base station

Abstract: This study presents a unidirectional bowtie array antenna with incision gap for a digital video broadcasting‐T2 base station application. The antenna element consists of a bowtie radiator with incision gap on top of a square reflector. The element achieves a bandwidth of 82.35% for |S11| of <−10 dB, covering a frequency range of 450–1080 MHz. The antenna array comprises of four identical antenna elements mounted vertically to form an antenna array. The simulated and measured results of the antenna array show a… Show more

“…The monopole antenna [5] has a gain of 1.7 dBi, which is very low compared to that of other DTV antennas. In order to increase the gain, a solution was proposed in [6] that was based on a unidirectional array of bowtie antennas with an incision gap. The measured gain for this antenna array was 13.4-16.1 dBi.…”

“…For DTV transmitting antennas, a unidirectional 1 × 4 circular bow-tie dipole array antenna with incision gaps on top of a square ground plane was proposed [ 26 ]. It covered the 450–1014 MHz frequency band with gain of 13.4–16.1 dBi in the frequency range of 470–862 MHz.…”

“…In order to broaden the operating bandwidth much further, several dipole antennas for DTV transmitting are proposed [14]- [16]. In the papers [14], [15], two stereoscopic antennas with compensated baluns are introduced.…”

“…By using the modified baluns, the relative bandwidths under VSWR < 1.15 are enhanced to 37.2% and 44.6%. In [16], a bowtie antenna with incision gap is proposed. Due to the wideband antenna unit, the relative bandwidth reaches 77.1% under the VSWR < 2, and the high gains are 13.4 dBi -16.1 dBi within the frequency range of 470 MHz -862 MHz.…”
